In honor of Comic-Con this week, I'm scanning past superhero-based episodes of my old COMICS BUYER'S GUIDE strip. This batch focuses on the FANTASTIC FOUR.

A Shoe Thing
A cartoon from my earliest days at the late, lamented COMICS BUYER'S GUIDE. I had to re-letter and touch it up a bit digitally due to the original's age.

FOR ART'S SAKE, Comics Buyers Guide #1690
MARVEL comics made a big issue about artists selling unauthorized sketches of their characters recently. Understandable, given copyright laws, but will it affect "Fair Use" satires like I do in my strip?

For Art's Sake: The Name Game
My latest FOR ART'S SAKE strip from THE COMICS BUYER'S GUIDE #1682;
I can understand many Superheroes from different companies having similar powers (Compare Mr. Fantastic to Plastic Man, Aquaman to Sub-Mariner, and how many Bulked-up brutes have we seen with colossal strength? But NAMES?? The original CAPTAIN MARVEL seen here has to call his books "SHAZAM" since Marvel Comics started their OWN Captain Marvel" (The kid with his head off is called "Captain Marvel," too..HIS SHTICK was that he was an android that could seperate his body parts when he yelled "SPLIT!") some time after Fawcett cancelled their series and was restarted by DC..But to let ARCHIE get away with their own DOCTOR DOOM? I guess adding the "MAD" makes all the difference...
Maybe I should have colored this, in case anyone doesn't get the joke about THE THING looking "like Archie Andrews' Toupee"...

For Art's Sake: At the Pearly Gates

My latest FOR ART'S SAKE strip from THE COMICS BUYER'S GUIDE #1680.
This episode was inspired by the recent much publicized death of Johnny Storm, The Human Torch, In Marvel's FANTASTIC FOUR comics. What WOULD happen if they let a guy that turns into fire in HEAVEN?
