Salem News: Highland Avenue Study
Highland Avenue is a stretch of Highway that goes from Salem into Lynn…It's a MAJOR traffic area, very cluttered and rocky, many areas have inadequate sidewalks and even more have NO sidewalk at all. It's so bad cyclists will not go on it unless they absolutely have to, and it's even worse for pedestrians, for walking is very high risk. The Mass Dept. of Transportation recently completed a study of the area, hoping to get improvements going, especially as Salem plans to build a multiscreen entertainment center in the area. Salem News: Possible Rail Fare Hike
In the throe of continuing mechanical problems with its trains, complaints about its lousy service and the memories of last winter, the Massachusetts Commuter Rail system is considering a possible fare hike, angering many commuters who are paying a lot NOW.
